The second round of Patch Tuesday 2022 monthly updates has arrived and brings a whole host of changes for Windows 10 and Windows 11, whether it’s a newer or older version.
As we announced earlier today, the February Patch Tuesday updates should fix some of the issues that were still outstanding, and in the article below we’ll be looking to see exactly what we’re getting. .
We’ve included detailed changelogs for each cumulative update, and we’ll also provide direct download links from Microsoft’s Windows Update Catalog, so you know they’re safe.
Alternatively, you can always use other methods to get the latest updates, including:
- The Windows Update menu on your operating system
- The WSUS (Windows Server Update Service)
- Group policies configured by your administrators if you are part of a larger network.
Changes Included in February Patch Tuesday Updates
Versions 21H2, 21H1 and 20H2 of Windows 10
Windows 10 v21H2 is the latest major release of Windows 10 and as such has the most experimental features.
Thankfully, most of the bugs that were first present when it was first released have been squashed, and this version of Windows 10 is much more stable.

- Addresses an issue that causes a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) modify operation to fail if the operation contains the SamAccountName and User Account Control attributes. The error message is “Error: 0x20EF. The directory service encountered an unknown failure”.
Known issues
- Devices with Windows installations created from custom offline media or a custom ISO image may have Microsoft Edge Legacy removed by this update, but not automatically replaced by the new Microsoft Edge. This issue only occurs when custom offline media or ISO images are created by embedding this update in the image without first installing the Standalone Servicing Stack (SSU) update released on March 29 2021 or later.
REMARK
Devices that connect directly to Windows Update to receive updates are not affected. This includes devices using Windows Update for Business. Any device connecting to Windows Update should always receive the latest versions of the SSU and the latest Cumulative Update (LCU) without any additional steps.
- After installing the June 21, 2021 (KB5003690) update, some devices cannot install new updates, such as the July 6, 2021 (KB5004945) or later updates. You will receive the error message “PSFX_E_MATCHING_BINARY_MISSING”.
- After installing this update, when connecting to devices in an untrusted domain using Remote Desktop, connections may fail to authenticate when using card authentication smart. You might receive the prompt “Your credentials did not work. The credentials that were used to log in to [device name] didn’t work. Please enter new credentials. and “Connection attempt failed” in red.
Windows 10, version 1909
As the Redmond-based tech company said not too long ago, Windows 10, version 1909 reached end of service on May 11, 2021, for devices running Home, Pro, Pro for Workstation, Nano Container and Server SAC.
Devices still running this version of the operating system will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection against the latest security threats.
So, if you still want to receive security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends updating to the latest version of Windows 10.

Windows 10, version 1809
This version of the operating system is outdated and will no longer receive updates from the technology company. Users who are still running this older version on their devices are strongly advised to choose a newer one for the update.
If you still want to use Windows 10 and don’t want to upgrade to 11, you don’t have to do it just yet. After all, Microsoft has announced that support for Windows 10 will continue until 2025.

- After installing updates released on January 11, 2022 or later, applications that use the Microsoft .NET Framework to acquire or set Active Directory forest trust information may experience issues. Applications may fail or close or you may receive an error from the application or from Windows. You may also receive an access violation error (0xc0000005).
Windows 10, version 1607
To note: Windows 10, version 1607 has reached end of service for all of its available editions. Update to the latest version of Windows 10 to protect your system.

Improvements and fixes:
- Updates DST to start in February 2022 instead of March 2022 in Jordan.
- Updates the phone number for Windows activation for locales that have the wrong phone number.
- Addresses an issue that causes Windows to stop working and generates the “IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL” error.
- Addresses an issue that causes Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) objects to be incorrectly cleaned up. This prevents the session from being unmounted and causes a session to terminate.
- Resolves an access violation in IKEEXT.dll which occurs on Always On VPN (AOVPN) and DirectAccess servers. The exception code is 0xC000005.
- Addresses an issue that affects Administrative Template settings that you configure by using a Group Policy object (GPO). When you change the policy setting value to NOT CONFIGURED, the system fails to remove the previous setting. This issue is most noticeable for roaming user profiles.
- Fixes a memory leak that occurs when calling WinVerifyTrust(). This issue occurs if verification fails for the first signature of a file that has multiple signatures.
- Addresses a known issue that affects versions of Windows Server used as a Key Management Services (KMS) host. Client devices running Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2016 may fail to activate. This issue only occurs when using a new Customer Support Volume License Key (CSVLK) and after installing updates released on April 22, 2021 or later.
- Adds an audit event to Active Directory domain controllers that identifies clients that are not RFC 4456 compliant. scanning.
- Fixes an issue that could cause Kerberos.dll to cease working within the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS). This occurs when LSASS processes concurrent User-to-User (U2U) Service for User (S4U) requests for the same client user.
- Addresses an issue that causes a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) modify operation to fail if the operation contains the SamAccountName and User Account Control attributes. The error message is “Error: 0x20EF. The directory service encountered an unknown failure”.
