ZANESVILLE, Ohio – This Saturday, the Muskingum County Library System will partner with the Muskingum County Literacy Council to bring the Family Reading Festival to the John McIntire Library in Zanesville. The event titled “Reading is my super power!” will offer hands-on activities and crafts for all ages that will promote literacy and bring stories and characters to life.

Cindy Lawyer, Muskingum County Literacy Council Community Liaison Officer, and Beth Brown, Muskingum County Library System Outreach Services Manager, explain the purpose of the event and what attendees can expect.

“Its main function is to really promote literacy, family literacy. Both children and adults,” Lawyer said. “Well, literacy is really important and I think that’s really the core vision of both of our organizations. So it’s a great collaboration. I don’t know, I’m sure we couldn’t have succeeded without the support of the library.

The event featuring superheroes will utilize the entire library by setting up stations with various activities and themes that will promote literacy.

“If you come to the Family Reading Festival at the library, you can expect to have fun with superheroes, book characters,” Brown said. “We have over 50 companies, agencies and groups coming. We’re going to have live animals, we’ll have superheroes running around and adults, there will be adult activities. Free books for all. Just a great day of fun.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday at the John McIntire Library in Zanesville. For more information, you can visit the events page on muskingumlibrary.org.
