Oppo officially announced its first self-designed advanced imaging NPU – MariSilicon X at the recently held Oppo INNO Day 2021.

Built on 6nm processing technology, MariSilicon X combines advanced NPU, ISP and multilevel memory architecture to deliver incredible performance with unparalleled power efficiency, making real-time RAW processing possible for capturing stunning video. 4K AI nightclub with live preview. MariSilicon X will debut in Q1 2022 on the Find X series.

“With more than a decade of experience in pushing the boundaries of imaging technology, OPPO has pioneered some of the industry’s biggest innovations in camera modules, lenses and algorithms, ”said Jiang Bo, senior manager of Oppo. “Our new state-of-the-art imaging NPU is the biggest step we have taken so far, bringing more power to mobile imaging systems and will create an extraordinary experience for our users. “

The MariSilicon X NPU offers an incredible 18 trillion operations per second (TOPS), more than enough computing power to support our AI algorithms. With mind-blowing energy efficiency, the NPU delivers top-level performance without draining the battery. The NPU also features a revolutionary dedicated tera-bps memory subsystem, which dramatically reduces the time required to copy data back and forth between storage and processing units.

MariSilicon X with its dedicated DDR with additional bandwidth dramatically minimizes delays and reduces power consumption caused by unnecessary repeated read-write cycles.

When running Oppo’s AI noise reduction algorithm, MariSilicon X can achieve up to 20 times faster performance compared to OPPO Find X3 Pro. MariSilicon X can capture 4K AI night time video by applying complex enhancements to each frame in real time.

MariSilicon X has a powerful ISP that can capture images with an incredible dynamic range of 20 bits at 120 db – 4 times that of the Find X3 Pro. It gives images a 1,000,000: 1 contrast ratio between the brightest and darkest areas of the image, which helps keep images true to life.

With its great computing power and high data throughput, MariSilicon X revolutionizes the imaging pipeline so that by processing the original imaging data, achieving an 8dB signal-to-noise ratio for the images , opening up a whole new world for computer photography.

Using the Dual Image Pipeline design and raw dual super sampling, MariSilicon X also unleashes the full potential of Oppo’s RGBW sensor, resulting in a 1.7x improvement in texture quality, in addition to a 8.6dB improvement in signal-to-noise ratio making images more expressive in both stills and videos.

As a dedicated imaging NPU, MariSilicon X marks a new era in computer photography. With its huge advancement in performance and power efficiency, it unleashes the power of AI noise reduction algorithms to create clearer and sharper videos. It also offers greater dynamic range and better color reproduction, allowing each individual image to look as rich and defined as a still photo. This is the first time that 4K AI HDR nighttime video capture has been made possible on Android phones.

MariSilicon X will make its commercial debut on the Find X series in the first quarter of 2022, bringing with it the most powerful imaging experience for the smartphone.
