You’d have to see a Find N 5G in person to know for sure if the crease is completely hidden, but in the photos it certainly appears to be.

The Find N 5G is Oppo’s very first foldable phone and the result of four years of research and development and six generations of prototypes, according to the company.

One of the ways Oppo pursued was by designing the Fold N 5G’s display to use a landscape ratio for the interior display, a first for the foldable smartphone category. It has an internal 7.1-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1729 x 1920, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a peak brightness of 1000 nits.

“With an 8.4: 9 aspect ratio, the indoor display unfolds directly into landscape mode so users can watch videos, play games or read books without the added step of rotating the screen. When folded, the 18: 9 aspect ratio gives users a familiar, smartphone experience with an easy-to-use one-handed display, ”says Oppo.

Then there’s the 5.49-inch external AMOLED display with 1927 x 988 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, and the same maximum brightness rating. A “water drop” bending hinge widens the angle of the bend to provide a pad and bend that Oppo says is 80% less noticeable compared to other devices. Oppo also says that the hinge design virtually eliminates the space between screens for a nicer aesthetic and better protection against scratches.

Interestingly, Oppo went with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor over the next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The extensive development of the Find N 5G plays a role in the decision. The Snapdragon 888 is still a rugged mobile chip, but it’s no longer the flagship of the Qualcomm team.

This is bolstered by 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage, or 12GB of RAM paired with 512GB of storage. So it’s a high-end Android phone.

Oppo also announced its first imaging NPU, called MariSilicon X. It is a high-tech chip based on a 6 nanometer manufacturing process and which combines NPU, ISP and multi-level memory architecture in the same package.
