SolidRun, a developer and manufacturer of high-performance system-on-module (SOM) solutions, single board computers (SBC) and network edge solutions, has announced its new SOM powered by the AM64x family of processors from Texas Instruments (TI ). Equipped with real-time, low-latency processing, this new SOM targets industrial applications of IoT and industrial machines.

The SOM AM64x is for applications that require a combination of precise real-time processing and application processing and is equipped with two Cortex A53 cores for operating system and application level processing, up to four cores Cortex R5F for real-time computation, servo-control and functional safety, and an isolated Cortex M4 MCU channel for error monitoring. This SOM also contains a built-in MCU subsystem and diagnostic libraries, inline ECC, isolated Cortex-M4 core that can run independent of the SoC, secure boot with a hardware-backed root of trust and more.

Designed using TI’s efficient production 16nm FinFET technology, these new TI AM64x processor-based SOMs consume little power, support fanless designs, and are rugged in extreme environments from -40 ° C to 85 ° C. Measuring just 47 x 30mm, these SOMs contain much more than the AM64x processor, including integrated eMMC storage, a sub-1 GHz microcontroller for radio communication, and up to three gigabit Ethernet physical layer transceivers.

To maximize the multi-protocol Ethernet support of the AM6442 processor, the SOM relies on two integrated Gigabit Industrial Communications Subsystems (PRU-ICSSG) that support industrial Ethernet protocols such as Profinet IRT, Profinet RT, EtherNet / IP, EtherCAT and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN). Combined with integrated high-speed PCIe, USB 3.0 and Ethernet switching interfaces, as well as general industrial connectivity options such as UART, I2C, CAN and ADC, the SOM is the ideal basis for industrial communication systems, l ‘factory automation, industrial robots and machine control, industrial gateways, M2M communication and much more.

The AM64x SOM family offers several ordering options for the A53 single-to-dual-core and R5F single-to-quad-core options based on the TI AM6411, AM6412, AM6421, AM6441 and AM6442 processors. Additionally, SOMs can be optional with TI’s SimpleLink CC1312 Multiprotocol and Multiband Wireless MCU for communication below 1 GHz. Support for 6LoWPAN, MIOTY and Wi-SUN protocols enables SOM to perform advanced sensor detection and measurement, which is especially useful for HVAC, smart buildings, advanced medical systems, smart meters, etc.

“Industrial automation, robots, smart buildings and more require powerful application processing capabilities as well as robust real-time communications for precise machine control,” said Dr. Atai Ziv, CEO of SolidRun. “Until now, no solution could do it all. Our AM64x-based family of SOMs streamline hardware specifications and enable developers to rapidly design compact, accurate, and connected edge devices and industrial network solutions for industrial IoT and next-generation automation.

SolidRun also offers Hummingboard-T AM64X Base and Hummingboard-T AM64X Pro support boards which are perfect for prototyping with SOMs equipped with the AM64x processor. These new Hummingboards support up to 1GB DDR4, 8GB eMMC flash memory and offer expansion and communication options including:

  • GPIO header
  • I / O for USB 3.0, CAN-FD and RS485 / RS232,
  • up to three gigabit Ethernet ports, two of which have ICSSG PRUs,
  • Cat 4 LTE optional with SIM slot
  • Optional CC1312 SimpleLink 1 GHz Wireless MCU

SOM TI AM64x S and Hummingboard carrier boards are available through SolidRun. To help speed up the development process, customers will benefit from an optimized card support package, long-term stable support for certain software distributions, access to SolidRun support tools, and a sample source code.
