KERSHAW – If you’re looking for a chance to go out and enjoy the change of seasons and have some old school fun in a small town, you’ll get it this weekend.
The annual Nature and Art Day in the Park is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 23 at Stevens Park, 200 Close Circle.
Now in its seventh year, Nature and Art Day is hosted by the Kershaw Community Park Council (KCPC) and is one of its flagship events. It is co-sponsored by the city.
There will be a petting zoo, a nature scavenger hunt, a misty rainforest with reptiles and creatures, arts and crafts, arts in the park, an archery exhibit, free food and drink and plenty of family entertainment.
Headlining this year’s event, “Backyard Birding and Beyond†by Dr. Larry King. The informal seminar is from 11 a.m. to noon in the park amphitheater.
A native of New Jersey and a retired physician, King has been fascinated with nature since he was a child and began in-depth birding in 1994. While he has traveled the world observing bird species, songs, plumage and movements, he has developed an expertise on avifauna in Piedmont.
Local drummer and percussion instructor Gareth Burns will lead a just-for-fun drum circle on the amphitheater stage from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Everyone can participate ; just bring your own drums or percussion instrument.
There will also be an open mic session from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday for anyone who wants to sing or dance on the amphitheater stage. The sound system will be provided; all you have to do is bring your own music.
