The Nintendo Switch has reached a total of 89.04 million in hardware sales, Nintendo’s latest financial report confirms.
Between April and June 2021, the system sold a total of 4.45 million units (3.31 original model, 1.14 million for the Lite) to help it reach that 90 million milestone, although that sales are currently down year over year. Nintendo says hardware sales were “driven by the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons in March 2020” in the first quarter of last year, and without a similar killer app this year, sales are down by 21. 7%.
The table below shows the correct Nintendo home console hardware sales as of June 30, 2021.
Console | Equipment sales (millions) | Software sales (millions) |
Wii | 101.63 | 921.85 |
Nintendo Switch | 89.04 | 632.40 |
NDA | 61.91 | 500.01 |
SNES | 49.10 | 379.06 |
Nintendo 64 | 32.93 | 224.97 |
GameCube | 21.74 | 208.57 |
Wii U | 13.56 | 103.39 |
Those 4.45 million sales bring Switch’s lifespan closer and closer to that of the Wii, which sold 101.63 million units before it was discontinued. From there, only the Game Boy family of consoles (118.69 million) and the Nintendo DS family (154.02 million) stand in the way of Switch’s fight to become the best-selling Nintendo console of all time.
