Everything is complete for friends / neighbors Lia Kalin and Chris Rodriguez. Since opening the Solene store in 2016, Kalin has expanded the business from a small storefront at the corner of Detroit and Stoney Ridge Roads, to the current location at Olde Avon Village, 36840 Detroit Road.

In between, Solene was located at 35715 Detroit Road, next to Pickering Hill Farms. In early 2020, Maison, Designs by C. Marie opened upstairs in the building housing Solène. The furniture and interior design store is owned by Rodriguez. Both businesses performed well at the site, but Kalin eventually moved Solone to the road and Rodriguez found a space at Avon Lake, 186 Lear Road, which gave him more workshop space for custom furniture than he did. ‘She’s painting.

After a year apart at their respective premises, the two business owners recently announced that they are meeting again, but this time as partners of Solène. Rodriguez recently closed its Avon Lake location.

“Business was good in the Avon Lake space, but I needed a more established retail location,” Rodriguez said. “Lia and I have decided to merge and partner up. I am so excited to be back at Avon. The energy at Olde Avon Village is amazing.

Rodriguez has moved much of his interior design inventory to the Solène space and also has several pieces of furniture on display for sale. She also continues to do her custom furniture work.

“I’m so excited to have Chris as a partner,” Kalin said. “She shares the same vision, the same goals and the same love for Solène, but also brings her own unique ideas. She is knowledgeable, friendly and the perfect piece to make Solene even better. We are looking forward to expanding with new suppliers, new areas and online in the future.

Meet the Museum: The Avon Lake Historical Society is hosting a “Meet the Museum” event from 7 to 9 pm on October 23 at the Beach Park Railway Museum, 33501 Lake Road.
